Sparks Fly

Sparks flew today and it's not even the 4th of July yet.

This is how it went....

The cowboys had to weld today.
We had a cattle guard that was damaged which made it impossible to drive over.

When you weld, sparks fly.

When sparks fly around dry grass...things can happen unexpectedly and quickly.

It started out small, then the wind kicked up.
Can you see the heat waves?

Vic is standing by keeping a close eye.

Will it burn out on it's own or keep rolling across the field?

It's funny how green grass will burn so quickly.

The equipment is ready.

Some sections burned out on it's own but the wind kicked up in waves which added fuel for the fire.

When the flames became too intense, the guys started the water truck up and sprayed the fire.

Pretty amazing how flames and fire can take on a life of their own.

Luckily the flames and size of the fire was easily manageable.

Twice over with the water hose ensured the flames were out.

Because this field has cows on it, there's cow {poop}, fire likes cow {poop}, causing a lot of "hot spots."

Putting out the "hot spots" was tricky as the cow {poop} didn't want to give up. It smoldered until each pile was individually watered and shoveled spreading it out to take away the heat.

Vic and the cowboys did a great job of putting this fire out.
Helps having the right equipment for the job too.

The End...
